ROLES IN ILDIKAR

Although most of the creatures found in the Monster Manual or other supplements are identical in the Tales of Ildikar setting, some have slightly different abilities or roles. The following describes these differences.

Dragons

As the Creators brought Vorel into existence, an agreement was made that they would create a majestic race to call it home. The dragons of Ildikar, sometimes called the Firstborn, are the result of their efforts. The original dragons were not segregated by color or outlook, instead each was a unique creature with unique abilities. Through the centuries, the descendants of these dragons evolved into the forms commonly known today.

As the Creators brought the lesser races into being, dragons disagreed over whether to guide them or enslave them. The Heritage Wars raged for a century, and the dragons would never again unite. The metallic dragons sought to protect and steer the newly-awakened races, while the chromatic dragons sought to use them for their own machinations.

The battle lines drawn over 5,000 years ago hold true to the present day, but they have certainly been blurred.

Dragons in Tales of Ildikar setting are not tied to an alignment, although draconic culture certainly encourages the standard alignments. A typically silver dragon might not trust a red dragon, but the red dragon could be good-aligned all the same. Likewise, players should not always assume the brass dragon they encounter has their best interests at heart...

The Firstborn are the heirs of Vorel, and they are perhaps the most widely respected (and feared) creatures in the world.
